“Retribution will be heavy”…

Heavy cross-border shelling in the disputed Kashmir region killed at least three Pakistani soldiers and seven Indian troops on Wednesday, Pakistan’s military said, in a sharp escalation of violence after a deadly ambush of three Indian soldiers. At least 10 civilians also were killed, witnesses said.According to Washington Post, Pakistan’s military announced the death toll of both Pakistani and Indian forces. There was no word from India on the casualty count. A senior official with India’s paramilitary border forces said at least two personnel were injured. The clashes were the latest in recent weeks along the heavily militarized border that divides Kashmir between Pakistan and India, and it raised the specter of more unrest between the two nuclear-armed rivals.Later Wednesday, the directors general of the two militaries held talks, but it was unclear whether it could help ease tensions. On Tuesday, the Indian army vowed that “retribution will be heavy” after three soldiers were ambushed and killed while on border patrol in the rugged Machil area on the Indian side of the border. The body of one of the soldiers was mutilated, military officials said.

The New York Times said…

The software is not aimed at deleting posts, it just makes them invisible for other users, The New York Times said Tuesday citing three current and former Facebook employees.According to Free Thought Project, decisions on such posts will not be made by Facebook itself – the company is allegedly going to enable a third party, likely a Chinese company, to monitor popular stories and to decide whether they have to be made invisible. The current and former Facebook employees noted that it was just one of several ideas the company discussed to re-enter China. Facebook as well as many other popular social networks such as Twitter and Dropbox remain blocked in China, which is potentially one of biggest market for them because of the huge population of the country.

According to Reuters…

About 550 migrants, most of them from West Africa, were pulled to safety from boats in the Mediterranean on Monday in five operations during which rescuers also recovered five dead bodies, Italy's coast guard said, according to Reuters. The bodies were in a rubber dinghy and one other person from the dinghy had drowned, according to aid group SOS Mediterranee, whose Aquarius vessel helped in the rescues off Libya's coast. "We recovered five bodies dead inside the rubber boat after the rescue, and one person drowned," an SOS Mediterranee spokeswoman said, quoting two rescue workers who said they saw the person drowning. They were not able to recover the body. A boy, who was unconscious for two hours, and a woman who had inhaled a lot of fuel, were evacuated by helicopter. An Italian coast guard ship, a naval vessel and a Danish chemical tanker also took part in the rescues, the coast guard said in a statement. The death toll in the Mediterranean has surged this year to 4,271 as of Nov. 14, compared to 3,777 in the whole of 2015, according to the International Organization for Migration. The deadliest route is across the Mediterranean towards Italy from Libya, where smugglers have taken advantage of a breakdown of order to pack people into unseaworthy boats.

Donald Trump, according to AFP…

Barack Obama will travel Monday to Greece and Germany in a final official visit designed, in a strange bit of political contortion, at reassuring worried Europeans about a man he once warned was "unfit" for the presidency: Donald Trump, according to AFP. The irony is cruel: In the name of a peaceful transition, the American president, having thoroughly denounced the billionaire Republican during the recent campaign, must now do his best to reassure his European counterparts about the future of American democracy under a President Trump. "I think the design of the trip was meant to just give everybody some reassurance that we made it through this campaign and we're going to come out of it all right," said Heather Conley of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, in Washington. "We just have a different scenario now." The bombastic populist, whose victory over Hillary Clinton surprised virtually everyone, has given Europeans ample cause for concern. He has questioned the relevance of some of America's paramount alliances, starting with NATO; put the Paris climate-change accord in doubt by calling global warming "a hoax," and sharply criticized the strenuously negotiated pact that Washington and five other countries signed with Iran to curb its nuclear program.

Presidential elections in Moldova…

Socialist Party's Igor Dodon announced his victory in the second round of Moldova's presidential election on Monday, Sputnik reported. Earlier in the day, the Central Election Commission said that Dodon was winning the election with 55.48 percent of the vote after almost 95 percent of votes counted. His main rival, opposition candidate from Action and Solidarity Party Maia Sandu won almost 45 percent. "I can say with confidence that we have won in these presidential elections. The vote overseas is still ongoing, but at this point we have already received 50 percent plus 1 vote. We have won," Dodon told a briefing.
