Winter Meeting at the Hofburg Congress Centre in Vienna

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is holding its 16th Winter Meeting at the Hofburg Congress Centre in Vienna. The opening session will feature speeches by President of the National Council of Austria Doris Bures, OSCE PA President Christine Muttonen (Austria), and OSCE PA Special Representative on Gender Issues Hedy Fry (Canada), according to the assembly`s website.In the closing joint session on the afternoon of 24 February, parliamentarians will hear addresses by Chairperson-in-Office of the OSCE and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria Sebastian Kurz and OSCE Secretary General Amb. Lamberto Zannier, followed by a question and answer session.The three general committees will meet to hear from government representatives of OSCE countries and debate issues related to political and security affairs, economics and the environment, and human rights and humanitarian questions

Former Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for misconduct, according to BBC.Tsang led Hong Kong from 2005 to 2012 and is the most senior official in the territory ever to stand trial for corruption.He was found guilty last week of misconduct in public office, in a case related to a luxury flat in China.

At least six people have been killed by an explosion in the Pakistani city of Lahore, officials say, according to BBC.The blast ripped through a shopping area, wounding another 30 people.The cause is unknown. Initial reports suggested an electricity generator exploded but police said later it may have been a bomb.Pakistan has been hit by a wave of bombings claimed by Islamist militant groups in recent days. There was no immediate claim for the latest blast.It happened in Lahore's Defence Housing Authority suburb. Television footage showed buildings and cars damaged by the blast.

Police on Wednesday claimed to have killed eight terrorists including a key militant figure affiliated with a banned organization, according to The International News.According to SSP Malir Rao Anwar, the suspected terrorists were killed during a raid on Bakrapeeri Road on a tip off regarding presence of Gul Zaman, Amer of a proscribed outfit.He said the terrorists were planning to carry out an act of terrorism in Karachi.Identities of the suspects were not known. The law enforcement agencies have intensified the drive against militants in Karachi following a deadly bomb blast at the Shrine of the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar that killed over seventy people last week.

Russian Rosneft's net income for 2016 decreased by 49 percent to 181 billion rubles ($3.13 billion) compared to 2015, the company announced on Wednesday, according to Anadolu Agency.The company said the decrease was down to fallen oil prices.Last year total sales decreased by 10 percent to 4.9 trillion rubles, however, Rosneft's revenues and equity share in profits of associates and joint ventures in the fourth quarter of 2016 increased by 21.4 percent to 1.4 trillion rubles, the company said.A 10 percent oil price growth, efficient cost control and production increases led to the upturn in the company's revenues in the fourth quarter of last year, according to Rosneft's Chief Executive Officer Igor Sechin.The company sold 19.5 percent of its shares for €10.5 billion, as part of its privatization goal, to a consortium of Glencore and Qatar's sovereign fund in December 2016.

Ali Kardor, the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), said that they have discovered 15 billion barrels of new in-place oil reserves, but the huge investments and state-of-the-art technology will be required to exploit the reserves.Ali Kardor also said that around 2 billion barrels of the newly-discovered reserves were 'recoverable'. Kardor added that about 1.8 trillion cubic meters (tcm) of in-situ reserves of natural gas around half of which he said were recoverable. However, he did not specify when and where the new discoveries had been made.
